Daniel Schell, tiptar accompanied by Sandip Banerjee-tabla In a program going from Indian classical to its possible usage in contemporary music. The duet has been around for more than 20 years. It has published two albums and is preparing a third. It has made the tape-guitar known in Indian music, in Europe and as far away as India. Schell and Banerjee, express themselves in Hindustani classical music (North India). They also initiated a language that allows Western musicians to play with the Indian rules of raaga and taala. To realize what it is to play Indian music, we can compare it to playing chess, where the Indians shine, by the way. We perform without scores, but by following a multitude of rules. We improvise on a memorized theme and melodic rules \u2013 the raaga \u2013 while positioning ourselves temporally in a rhythmic cycle \u2013 the taala -.. This system lends itself very well to the dialogue between the melodic soloist and the tabla. They move in the same rhythmic cycle and, through a whole series of conventional messages, and announce their intentions to each other. This system has of course fascinated Western musicians. composers as well as performers, whether in jazz or classical, written or improvised. Daniel Schel<\/strong>l has written compositions and books on the subject. Compositions of the Microcosm type but also various instrumental methods and Indian solfege. His instrument, the tap-guitar, allows micro-tonal inflections and the execution of two-handed movements, exactly like the tabla. Daniel’s specialty is vocal accompaniment, a kind of immediate counterpoint, but he also performs instrumental music. Sandip Banerjee<\/strong> a classically trained percussion master, has been called upon many times to accompany Western musicians in the jazz or improvised context in general. Both have accompanied the greatest Indian classical soloists <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexandra Oratorio<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

A chamber Oratorio on the life of Alexandra David-N\u00e9el and her writings on Milarepa and Dattatreya’s Avadhuta. Alexandra, the famous first woman to reach Lhassa in 1924 was also a prominent writer. She analysed the writings of Yogi hermit poet Milarepa of Tibet and Vedanta famous text by Dattatreya. Lessons go on general Indian music, melody and rhythms. various raaga-s are studied and sung together. The lyrics also are analysed. Subhankar has a rich repertoire of traditional religious ( Hindu-Muslim) songs but also secular, ranging from love poems to seasonal topics The rhythmic aspect is also covered and exercises are practiced together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
