Opera Arias

Daniel Schell: Opera Arias

An Opera evening with the Singers and Musicians of the Mons Conservatory Chambre Ensemble.

Daniel Schell is mostly interested in a relationship with contemporary writers. He is constantly reading and looking for new writers who will bring the musical theater to new horizons. The present performance could be called 'How I wrote (and will write) some of my operas' to quote a famous word by Raymond Roussel. The performance will outline the analytical, detailed, almost obsessive, process used by Daniel in order to work out the original texts.

The author with whom he worked the most is Amélie Nothomb, but he dialogs as well with such authors as Jacques Lacarrière, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and the strip story creator Jean-Claude Servais.

To see on stage:

In between the arias, there are dialogs where the singers ask themselves: Is Opera some kind of theater? Is it adapted to the reality? Does a singer need to be understood? Does he have to present a message?

The performance is in concert form, with infographic projections.

These operas are based on the three first novels by Amélie Nothomb.

Hygiène de l'assassin:

Les Combustibles:

Le Sabotage Amoureux:

L'Arbre Roi

This opera is a fantasy on the forest, but it is also an indictment on the terrible danger which the man makes run to the forest, in its unconscious ecological behavior. Based on a strip story by Jean-Claude Servais, with texts by known authors: ' Yggdrasil' bubble of Jacques Lacarrière starts the first, followed by Alejandro Jodorowsky.! .
