Bharat Natyam
Karo Trio with Natya Sundari dance group
Antonia Volodina and Michèle Sequeira dance Bharat Natyam (C Clic Music)
The last project of the Karo Trio is about Bharata Natyam. This dance, describing facts of the Hindu mythology, was performed since the antiquity in the temples of South India. It is now a recognised performance art all over the world. It has two remarkable features: The technical aspect involving rhythmic synchronization of the feet with the percussion and the expression-aspect with mimics and hand gestures. If the Bharata Natyam is relatively well known in the West, the music which accompanies it, however, is rarely performed live. Currently Daniel Schell works with Natasha Volodina, a Russian choreographer, who studied Bharata Natyam with guru S. Raghuraman (Madras) and guru Padmini Rao (Bangalore). Natasha has taught this tradition to her daughter Antonia, who is already a young star of Bharata Natyam.
Daniel made the transcriptions
of the accompanying Carnatic music coming from the Raghuraman and arranged it for
the Karo Trio
The Karo Trio with Natya Sundari Bharat Natyam made a first
apparition on the stage of Maison de la Culture of Woluwe St Pierre, ( show of
Michèle Cédric) then went to Anzin Festival (Valencienne, France), Leuven
University, Verviers Museum, festival Nepal ( Erezee), Sangit Summer Seminar
(Académie d'été de Wallonie, Neufchâteau) and many others. From there on it has
started to tour regularly in Belgium and France.
