Un vieil os du champ de maïs;
Dort dans le champs de maïs;
Les fourmis rouges s'associent par centaines,
Ne peuvent le déplacer;
Un chien voleur vient le prendre,
Et l'emporte en sa demeure.

An old bone in a corn field
Sleeps in a corn field
Red ants associate by hundreds
Cannot move it
A robber dog comes and takes it
And takes it home

Commentaire français de Daniel Schell
Dans la bouche de Pacere, ce texte est une métaphore sur le dictateur qui
s'approprie le travail de son peuple. Un petit peuple de fourmis,
fraternellement organisées, s'applique à nettoyer un os.
Elles y mettent tout le soin requis et emportent la viande pour les réserves
de la communauté. Un chien voleur passe et emporte l'os, réduisant
à néant le patient travail des fourmis.
Avec Pacere, nous nous somme amusés à imaginer que cet os était celui d'Ishango.
Cela ajoutait un élément encore plus dramatique au vol injuste! Le texte de la
pièce chorale en fait état.
English comment by Daniel Schell
For Pacere, this text is a metaphor on the dictator robbing his people. A
community of ants, organised along fraternal rules, is busy cleaning a
bone. The work is done with care and the meat is brought back for the needs
of the colony. A robber dog passes and takes the bone. The work of the
ants is ruined in a second.
With Pacere, we had the idea that this bone was the one of Ishango.
That brings a dramatic element to the song.
