Swiss Chalet

'Swiss Chalet' is an important step in the story of Cos. The African influence is present with Philippe Allaert and a newcomer, the bassist Mutsari from Ruanda. The influence of the reggae rythm structure is dominant on the first part of the album. The remaining songs are with the usual Cos idom and team, featuring Alain Goutier on bass and Charles Loos on keyboards. It is the last album where Pascale Son records with Cos, before starting a solo career in the 'chanson'. Daniel Schell makes here is first 'opera'. Swiss Chalet is a story with a libretto and an elaborated concept.

'The story 'Swiss Chalet'

'Swiss Chalet' is actually a novel written by Daniel Schell. The funny story with this novel is that it existed in only two exemplars. One was to be circulated amongst readers, starting February 1980, and has been -probably- lost after a circulation of say, 100... The other is still in possession of the author. The richissim heiress Dolly Cos, lives in the Swiss village of Gsturm. Her colossal fortune is administrated by an austerian businessmann François Demarbre. Bela Bregosi is a professional gigolo, a 'three o'clock hunter'. He lives in Vienna with a rich lady but starts to be bored. In a cabaret - listen to "Gigolo" - he meets an old friend Adrian Boost, who tells him about the famous village of Gsturm, where the top of the international jet-set lives. He tells him about Dolly Cos, her beauty and ... health. Bela leaves Vienna instantly by train - listen to 'Wagon'. Arrived in Gsturm, he stays in the luxuous Palace hotel, where he starts gambling in order to make some money. Unfortunately he loses against Vergeles, a powerful mafiosi, and has to escape. He lands to the house of Irma Stupendorf and seduces her. He manages to participate to a ski competition - listen to "Kibaki" - where he meets finally Dolly Cos, accompanied by her businessman François Demarbre. What a coincidence: Bela Lugosi and François Demarbre know each other very well since he was Bela's former teacher. Bela meets Dolly and seduces her in her chalet. The story brings them to Africa, where both meet an adventurous and tragic destiny.
